The event will be followed by a reception.

The Mediterranean remains to this day a blank spot in the Slovene identity and mentality, despite the country’s geographical, historical and cultural ties with the Mare nostrum. A rift between Slovenia’s actual and perceived geographical location has even widened following the emergence of conflicts, migration waves and clash of the cultures in the Mediterranean.

The round table discussion will focus on socio-political, economic and academic benefits of Slovenia’s engagement in the Mediterranean region, discuss the added value of the country’s geographical position at the crossroads of Central Europe, Western Balkans and the wider Mediterranean region on its multi-layered identity, and aim to open Slovenian cultural and intellectual space towards the common sea, thereby contributing to a stronger intercultural understanding and dialogue.

The event will be complemented by a one day photo exhibition, showing Slovenia’s links to other Mediterranean countries.
