What should you know before coming
Border Formalities
Border formalities are minimal and correspond to European standards. EU
citizens inside the Schengen area can travel without showing any
document at internal borders (but in order to identify themselves
students need to have some valid document). Other citizens of the
European Union and some other countries may cross the border using a
valid identity card or passport; however, their visit may not extend
over three months. All those who need visas to visit Slovenia can get
them at a Slovene embassy or consulate in their country.
First Residence Permit
For the first three months of staying in Slovenia students don't need a residence permit.
After this period EU students are required to apply for a First Residence Permit at the local Administrative Unit.
Students of countries outside the EU that are coming
to Slovenia for more than three months have to obtain a first residence
permit prior to their arrival to Slovenia. The students have to submit
an Application for the first residence permit at the nearest diplomatic
or consular representative office of the Republic of Slovenia.
Slovene Embassies and Consulates Abroad
Slovenia has embassies and consulates in many countries around the
world from which you can obtain general information about Slovenia.
Citizens of some countries need visas for Slovenia and these can be
obtained at all Slovene embassies and consulates abroad. List of
embassies and consulates as well as addresses could be found on the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website http://www.mzz.gov.si/

Health Care
The level of health care in Slovenia corresponds to European standards.
Every foreign visitor has the right to emergency medical care. Foreign
students from EU member countries and countries of the European
economic region should have the E-card.
Students from non-EU member countries should obtain the health
insurance certificate from the body responsible for health affairs in
their home country. This certificate should contain information
demonstrating that they have health insurance and a clear description
of the scope of their rights.
Students have to obtain a health insurance certificate prior to their arrival to Slovenia.
Currency
Slovenia's currency from 1st of January 2007 is the Euro.
