Location of delivery: Slovenia (Ljubljana, Portorož).Face to face lectures will be delivered in the form of intensive courses, approximately 2 months per year in Slovenia. Other activities will be held through e-learning.

Programme description
The doctoral study offers the students the opportunity to further expand their knowledge regarding understanding of the social, psychological, philosophical, economic, behavioural, historical and political aspects of the criminality, deviance and the system of criminal law; exploring the aetiology, prevention measures, monitoring and responses to the criminality and deviance; measuring and discovering criminality as well as other forms of society deviance; studying criminal law and criminal procedures, understanding and improving the activities of the police, attorneys, and judiciary work as well as all the institutions dealing with the criminal sanctions.
Enrolment conditions
Conditions for enrolment in the 1st year of study:
- candidates who graduated from 2nd Bologna Cycle study programme
- graduates who completed study programmes which are formed for studying professions regulated by EU directives or other single cycle master study programmes which consist of 300 ECTS
- candidates who graduated from academic study programmes accepted before June 11th 2004
- candidates who graduated from professional study programme, accepted before June 11th 2004 and a specialist study. These candidates need to fulfil study obligations in the amount of 60 ECTS before the enrolment. These obligations are the courses from the 2nd level master study programme Criminal Justice and Security Studies: Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving, Crime Investigation Strategy of Crime Reduction, Sentencing Policy and Penology, Intelligence and Security Activity, Private Security Industry, Methodology of Social Research and Applied Multivariate Statistics
Enrolment conditions fulfil also the candidates who passed education outside Slovenia that is equivalent to above mentioned.
Selection criteria when enrolment is restricted:
- grade point average (15 %),
- grade of final thesis (5 %) and
- success at the selective examination (80 %) that consist of an examination from the field of criminal justice and security. Previous scientific and professional work related to study programme can contribute up to 50 % of the examination mark.

The content of the programme Euro-Mediterranean studies will be included in the learning units.
To complete the study programme, a student must fulfil all the study programme requirements and successfully write and defend the doctoral dissertation and thus together collect at least 180 ECTS. Upon successful conclusion of the programme the student will be awarded the academic title Doktor znanosti (equivalent to Doctor of Philosophy).

Lecturers will be from the University of Maribor and from EMUNI partner institutions. List of lecturers will be available after 30 September 2009.
