EDULINK II

As of December 2013, EMUNI University has embarked on a ACP-EU project EDULINK II in partnership with University of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg, South Africa), CESTAS (Centro di Educazione Sanitaria e Technologie Appropriate Sanitarie, Italy), University of Namibia (Namibia), Bunda College of Agriculture – University of Malawi (Malawi) and Wits Health Consortium T/A Siyakhana Initiative for Ecological Health and Food Security (South Africa). The consortium was chosen on the basis of its quality, knowledge and variety of areas that will be covered, and also for the ability to reach numerous people in the beneficiary countries as well as elsewhere.

Project ObjectivesShow

The overall objective of EDULINK II is to strengthen the capacity of ACP (African- Caribbean-Pacific) Higher Education Institutions at academic level, fostering capacity building and regional integration and supporting the higher education of high quality.

The specific objectives of the programme are:

  • Develop programmes to promote the exchange of experiences and know-how in the field of education, making available satisfactory tools (ICTs) for professional development, training and learning;
  • Review university curricula that meet the needs of ACP states for economic and social development;
  • Improve women access to quality information and labour market opportunities focusing on agriculture and food security interventions and policies.

Project ActivitiesShow

The project is based on three key proposed interventions: networking, innovative and technological tools and joint development of programmes. Project activities aim to promote growth, inclusiveness, state competitiveness and development through strengthening the capacity of the HEIs, their capacity building, regional integration and supporting the quality of higher education.

Specific activities include:                                                          

  • project coordination and management,
  • networking and joint programme design,
  • teacher training course for HEIs academic staff,
  • upgrading of curricula,
  • research and tools for gender equality,
  • dissemination and demonstration of project best practices and models,
  • follow-up, monitoring and evaluation.

Project Partners and BeneficiariesShow

The project targets experts from European and partner African countries, HEIs training staff from partner HEIs, students and particularly women, enrolled at partner HEIs.

Main Project Expected ResultsShow

To reinforce ACP-EU cooperation at the macro regional level, through the exchange of good practices, knowledge and experiences between the HEIs in the EU and the ACP Countries on higher education and more specifically food security. More specifically:

  • quality and relevance of professional training in target area issues and in partner ACP HEIs,
  • improved inter-institutional networking between partner HEIs in ACP countries and EU,
  • increased joint training programme
  • designed and provided cost effective measures to provide universal university education and learning, taking into account gender perspectives,
  • fostered programme values, project best practices and network models promoted and disseminated.
