European Citizens for European Foreign Policy

As of August 2013, EMUNI University became a partner in a new project ECFEFP, supported by the Europe for Citizens Programme of the EU, in partnership with the Slovenian Paneuropean Movement (SPM, who will be responsible for the management of the project), the Paneuropabewegung Österreich (Austria), Paneuropska unija Bosne i Hercegovine (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Association Paneuropean Movement (Bulgaria), Hrvatska Paneuropska Unija (Croatia), Paneuropa-Jugend Deutschland e.V. (Germany), Kulturna Ustanova Josip Pangerc (Italy), Paneurópska únia na Slovensku (Slovakia), Društvo Evro-atlantski svet Slovenije (Slovenia), Mladinski svet Ljubljane (Slovenia), Študentsko društvo Slovenska akademska unija (Slovenia) and Comité Espanol por la Unión Paneuropea (Spain). The project was granted by the EC for its innovative approach towards analyzing EU foreign policy and involvement of European citizens in this frame, its quality and variety of areas that will be covered, and also for the ability to reach numerous people in the beneficiary countries as well as elsewhere.

Project Objectives

The overall objective of ECFEFP is to discuss different dimensions of the EU foreign policy (neighbourhood policy, regional cooperation, global role of the EU, minority issues and decision-making process of the EU foreign policy) and citizens’ rights within this frame.

Objectives of the project are thus:

  • Giving citizen the opportunity to interact and participate in constructing a tighter-knit Europe, which is democratic and world-oriented, united and enriched by its cultural diversity.
  • Developing a sense of European identity, based on common values, history and culture.
  • Fostering action, debate and reflection on European citizenship and democracy, shared values, common history and culture through cooperation within civil society organisations at European level.
  • Raising awareness, reflection and debate on the relevance and implications of EU policies on citizens' daily lives.
  • Exchanging views with and presenting results to the appropriate decision makers on ongoing European policies and their impact on local situations as well as on local issues with an European dimension.

Project Activities

The project is designed to be a dynamic process encompassing different activities with intention to achieve its objectives. Therefore following specific activities shall be performed:                                                          

  • Organisation of international conferences.
  • Organization of workshops, round tables and panel discussions.
  • Issuing of brochure.
  • Carry out and analyse the public opinion through questionnaire.

Project Partners and Beneficiaries

The project targets ENPI South Partner Countries national institutions particularly Ministries of Employment, Ministries of Interior and General Directorates for National Security, Planning authorities, Statistical Institutes, Ministries of Foreign Affairs as well as Finance/Central Banks.

Main Project Expected Results

Participants, partner organizations and wider interested public shall have an opportunity to participate, express themselves and interact in the project. They shall get new knowledge and information about the EU FP from different perspectives. They shall get new arguments and have an opportunity to discuss them with the guest speakers, MEPs, ambassadors and consuls. Much stress shall be put on the survey, because we wish EU citizens to be more informed about the EU FP and their rights stemming from it.
