16 January 2012. With the occasion of her participation at the event organised at the European Parliament in Brussels on 10 January 2012 at the initiative of MEP Vincent Peillon on the topic "Erasmus and Leonardo da Vinci Euromed: issues and challenges in the mobility of young students in the Mediterranean", the Vice-President of the European Parliament Mrs. Rodi Kratsa stressed the issue of the euro-mediterranean exchanges and in particular the role of the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI). Mrs. Kratsa underlined the significance of EMUNI for the coordination of euromediterranean cooperation on higher education and research, for the mobility of students and professors and in particular for the granting of scholarships and bridging the communication of the two shores. She reiterated the commitment of the European Parliament in this respect and especially with regard to the extension and financing of the programmes Erasmus Mundus and Leonardo da Vinci in the euro-mediterranean area, as expressed in its Written Declaration (April 2011).

The Vice-President of the European Parliament Mrs. Rodi Kratsa hosted for a meeting in the European Parliament in Brussels Dr. Abdouli Touhami, Professor at the University of Sousse in Tunisia, old friend of EMUNI, special advisor of EMUNI President Prof. Dr. Joseph Mifsud and recently appointed State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Tunisia with a portfolio on EU affairs. Dr. Touhami informed Mrs. Kratsa on the plans of Tunisia to establish two Universities oriented in modern education on sectors like economy, tourism and agriculture and to revitalise the role and presence of Tunisian Universities in the EMUNI, plans warmly welcomed by the Vice-President. Moreover, they discussed ways and means to strengthen the ties between the Republic of Tunisia with the European Union.
