London, United, Kingdom, 6 - 8 October. Dozens of thousands of University Students, vocational trainees and flooded the huge ExCel exhibition center in London to participate at the WorldSkills 2001, the biggest planetary competition in vocational skills. The event was organised by Youth on the Move which was the main exhibitor which today programmed several Leonardo, Comenius and Youth on the Move experiences, plus a presentation of Eures. The students discussed with the project promoters, but were also looking for entertainment - the most applauded was therefore the dance performance Positive Steps, prepared by a group of former offenders from West.
European Commission, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism, Sport, Media and Youth, visited the world's largest competition for trainees and students, she spoke about the importance of all forms of training and about EU projects to help young people try studying and working abroad, and reform of education systems. She pointed out the mismatch between the educational outcomes and employers' expectations. She also admired the skills of the young participants from 15 countries, At the Youth on the Move stand she chatted with English exhibitors about their experiences and explained what Europe can do for them, She was supported in her call by the MEP Mary Honeyball and Simon Hunt English rugby player and YoM ambassador. Simon recalled his 3 year stay in France and said that this experience had changed his life. Midlands and made possible by the Youth in Action programme.
EMUNI exhibited in this event with several Higher Education Institutions for the UK and Europe, Students asked different questions about what EMUNI is and what it can offer and appreciate the idea of EMUNI, at the margin of this event, EMUNI conducted several meeting with different Universities represented and the European Commission DG Education Culture, Multilingualism, Sport, Media and Youth.
