Sousse, Tunisia, 28-31 July. EMUNI participated in the Salon International de la
Creativite & de l'Innovation Technologique as part of the 3rd
Journees Tunisiennes Nanosciences et Nanotechologies. The forum which was
sponsored by the GTZ and organised by the University of Sousse, focused
specifically on a number of issues pertaining to the Union for the
Mediterranean including Transport and Logistics, Renewable Energies, and food
safety and de-pollution of mediterranean products. The seminar also had a
number of sessions dedicated to the action programmes which are required to
support the curriculum of new postgraduate programmes in the UfM. During
this encounter EMUNI also held a number of meetings with current EMUNI members such
as the Rectors of the University of Sousse, Ahmed Nouredienne Helal, founder
member of EMUNI and Prof. Jilani Lamlumi, member of the Senate of EMUNI.
In Sousse, the President of EMUNI also had a meeting with
the Prime Minister of Tunisia, Hon. Mohammed Ghanushi. In this meeting,
the Prime Minister thanked the President of EMUNI for the opportunities that
have been given to the Tunisian students and academics who have participated in
projects of EMUNI. He specifically mentioned the students who participated
in the first EMUNI label masters' programme in Energy. He also encouraged
other Tunisian Universities to partecipate in EMUNI. He also asked EMUNI
to provide courses in different languages including English as they are much
needed in Research and Innovation. He also spoke about the coming
Ministerial Conference in Slovenia, where he hoped that concerted and concrete
action about higher education and research will be undertaken by the Ministers
from the Union for the Mediterranean which will enable technological advance
and knowledge mobility. The ENPI service contract of EMUNI coordinated by
Prof. Nehale Fariid Mostapha was specifically outlined to the Prime Minister in
terms of relevance and goal sustainability. EMUNI, which had a stand at the
CITEC to promote the ENPI Service Contract financed by the European Commission,
also held meetings with the Polytechnic of Sousse, the the Rector of the
University of Sfax and the the Vice President of the University of Monastir
together with Prof. AbdelMajid Jemni, coordinator of the Laboratoire d'etudes
des systemes thermiques et energetiques.
Further meetings were held with E-Taalim, an ICT platform
which is working on behalf of North African Universities in three languages,
English, French and Arabic about a possibility of developing links between EMUNI
and North African University IT platforms. In meetings with the
representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education and of Scientific Research
of Tunisia, the concept of L'Etudiant Entrepeneur was discussed also due to the
fact that in September EMUNI will be hosting a specific conference on
Universities and Entrepreneurship. Further meetings on this topic were
organised with the Ecole de Commerce on the possibilities that EMUNI can give
in the lifelong learning process to the Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie du Centre.
