Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology - 2030 in UfM

Portorož, Slovenia, 16 April. EMUNI University, Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean - PAM ant the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia prepared a conference with a topic "Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology - 2030 in the Union For The Mediterranean: Conference on Higher Education and the Role of Universities in Supporting PAM Strategies throughout the Mediterranean" on 16 April 2010 in Hotel Histrion, Asteria Hall, Portorož, Slovenia.

 

At the conference approximately 60 members of the 3rd PAM standing committee and experts from the field of higher education from the whole Mediterranean discussed challenges and opportunities of Higher Education and Science in the frame of the Union for the Mediterranean and tried to identify possibilities of incorporation and efficient collaboration of higher education institutions with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.

  

The event was opened by Joseph Mifsud, EMUNI president and Sergio Piazzi, PAM Secretary General. The conference was attended also by Dr. Jószef Györkös, State Secretary at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, who renewed the expression of Slovenian support to the EMUNI project and also spoke about the ministerial conference in the field of higher education, research and innovation of the Union for the Mediterranean member states, which will be hosted by Slovenia at the end of April at Bled. 

 The participants of the conference stressed the importance of the parliamentarian and other political support to the higher education institutions and agreed that there are numerous common points of interest and possibilities of joint projects, especially from the priority fields of the Union for the Mediterranean, such as energy, business, civil protection and environment. They also spoke abot the necessity of including the private sector into the programme development and financing and stressed that higher eucation must act in response to global challenges and be open to economic market opportunities and interests.
