Monday, 9 October 2017 - Tuesday, 10 October 2017, Piran, Slovenia

Experts, decision-makers and practitioners gathered in Portorož to discuss how educational institutions could contribute to a better intercultural understanding among citizens of the Mediterranean. At the opening of the conference, Prof. Dr. Abdelhamid El-Zoheiry, President of the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI), stressed the impotance of intercultural dialogue as a key tool for future peaceful coexistance in the Euro-Mediterranean Region. He outlined how best pactice examples of EMUNI, such as its study programmes and reserach projects, show that education and science can indeed serve as a bridge for cultures.

The Conference showcased, debated and advocated for Intercultural Citizenship Education as a central tool for intercultural dialogue, and offered a set of recommendations for governments, schools, trainers and other social stakeholders. In addition, it provided an opportunity for networking to exchange good practices and create a shared approach to promoting intercultural citizenship education.
