Prior to the well-anticipated official opening of the EMUNI Annual Conference on April 5th, 2017, EMUNI University bodies convened.
The 26th session of the EMUNI Senate assembled in the morning, where the study areas relevant to the EMUNI Educational Strategy were discussed and the revised professional study programme Euro-Mediterranean Innovation and Entrepreneurship was approved. During the session, the mid-term renewal of the Senate was conducted. An extended 2 year membership was confirmed for Six Senators, Labib Arafeh, Karim Moustaghfir, Joseph Shevel, Dušan Lesjak, João Casqueira Cardoso and Giuseppe Cataldi. Six new members were appointed by the Management Board, Mustafa Aydin from Kadir Has University in Turkey, Nevila Rama from the Mediterranean University of Albania, Seddik Abdelsalam from Alexandria University in Egypt, Francesc Prior Sanz from Universitat Internacional de Catalunya in Spain, Claudio Cressati from the University of Udine in Italy and Eugenia Ferragina from Institute of Studies on Mediterranean Societies by the Italian National Research Council.
This was followed by a joint session of the Senate and the Management Board with the presence of the Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, Fathallah Sijilmassi. The session discussed the future cooperation between EMUNi and several institutions, including the Science and Resarch Centre in Koper and an Italian publisher, Cisalpino. The attendees also discussed and commended the progress report of the University, presented by the President, acknowledging the achievements in all domains, including the development and conduction of educational programmes, intensifying the EMUNI network of Higher Education Institutions and the effective cooperation along research, educational and coordination projects that EMUNi acquired during the previous period.
In the afternoon, the General Assembly was held with representatives from over 40 universities, higher education institutions and international organisations across the Euro-Mediterranean area. During the 9th Session of the General Assembly, Prof. Dr. Abdelhamid El-Zoheiry, President of EMUNI, reiterated the progress made since last year’s meeting held in Barcelona (Spain) with a special emphasis on three main areas: I. academia; II. international cooperation and III. International events. Four new member institutions were accepted to the EMUNI General Assembly: Science and Research Centre, Koper in Slovenia, Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Egypt, Eurasian Universities Union (EURAS) in Turkey, and Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) in Spain.
