Erasmus Policy Statement

EMUNI has been awarded the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education for the Erasmus+ programme 2014-2020. The Erasmus Policy Statement sets out our institutional strategy in relation to the Charter.

Erasmus Policy Statement (Overall Strategy)

EMUNI was established with a mission of advancing the exchange of students, research and academic staff, the development of joint study programmes and projects in the Euro-Mediterranean region. EMUNI is organized as an international institution with a seat in Piran, Slovenia. As of February 2014, 206 higher education and research institutions from 42 countries are members of EMUNI. EMUNI University's work focuses on the Education and Research Activities. The main goals of its operation are promoting the priorities of the Union for the Mediterranean and fostering cooperation and mobility among higher education and research institutions throughout the Euro-Mediterranean region with a special focus on co-operation with the countries of North Africa and Middle East.

Members of EMUNI are Higher Education Institutions, Research Institutions, Higher Education and Research Networks. EMUNI has also signed some agreements and memorandums with other international institutions, which are active in the Euro-Mediterranean Region. With the institutions, which are interested in joining EMUNI, EMUNI is signing the Letter of intent for cooperation. This is the first step toward the full membership in EMUNI and it represents the basis for collaboration on common project. Every institution, which expresses its intention to join EMUNI (i.e. sign the Letter of intent for cooperation) will receive the invitation to present its institution, the reasons for joining EMUNI and its possible contribution to the EMUNI University at the next General Assembly (in November). The General Assembly in its session will decide on admission of new members. Double/multiple/joint degrees are being prepared at EMUNI for the academic year 2013/2014.

Organization and implementation of international (EU and non-EU) cooperation projects in teaching and training in relation to projects implemented under the Erasmus+ Programme.

EMUNI's mission of bringing together universities and research institutions in the development of new projects gives it a distinctive and unique character, contributing to the values on intercultural dialogue and encouraging cooperation and exchange in the Mediterranean basin. Participating in international projects should lead to sustainable benefits for each party of the agreement and should also increase involvement in this type of activity for every member of EMUNI. Project participants clearly define the aims and roles of each project and expected results and achievements.

International relations office and academic units shall make big efforts to involve in projects as many students and teachers as possible. EMUNI's administrative units shall ensure all organizational and legal solutions necessary for the successful execution of multilateral agreements that will be in place. The principles regarding participation, financing and project aims are and will be fully transparent and available to all interested parties. Progress in a given undertaking shall be monitored, reported and published. Information on a given project will be public on the EMUNI's website in order to disseminate the idea of international cooperation and project promotion. The end results of the project will be presented by appropriate publishing channels.

Students’ participation in an educational programme shall be recorded in the Diploma Supplement and confirmed by a relevant certificate. Employees’ commitment to international initiatives shall be noted during their periodical performance assessment.

Expected impact on the modernization of EMUNI

Erasmus for All Programme consist of an excellent range of activities for learning mobility of individuals, which provides Euro Mediterranean University an ample opportunities to internationalize its students and staff towards common objectives. The chance of taking part in the Erasmus Programme and other multilateral project will be a further incentive to change and modernization in accordance with European Commission directives relating to Higher Education in Europe. Participating in international Programmes enhances the EMUNI’s prestige, attracts good students and active academic staff. The main interest of the EMUNI is to launch the new university study programs, concerning Euro-Mediterranean Cooperation in different fields. Big efforts for organizing courses, academic programs, improve teaching quality have been done. Once they have been launched, second priority is to increase the number of students and academic staff, internationalize studies and strengthens cooperation with other Institutions and Universities, for create a real Euro-Mediterranean Network. The Erasmus Programme, both for student and both for academic staff, would be one of the most relevant activities, since is exceptionally attractive for young people, researchers and so on. The offer of studies or internships abroad is one of the weighty arguments in the process of seeking new candidates. The learning mobility helps individuals increase their professional, social and intercultural skills and employability. EMUNI University is always trying to improve quality and suitability of its educational offer and mobility is the best way to raising the overall quality of education. Thanks to taking part in international programs, EMUNI will focus its attention to improve linking between higher education, research and business for excellence and regional development. Finally, EMUNI's goal is to diversify funding sources and establish more flexible governance, for a more stable and safe management.
